Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Secretary General Datuk Johnny Mositun urged random scanning of identification (ID) cards to be conducted at all places across the country.
Stating that there were many instances of dubious Malaysian identity cards usage among foreigners to pass themselves as Malaysians, Mositun cited a recent case in Johor whereby 20 Filipinos were caught using fake ID cards or someone else’s ID cards.
“We have also heard of cases where peddlers in Kuala Lumpur who were caught with dubious Malaysian identity cards.
“That is why the Immigration Department and National Registration Department (NRD) must also conduct random checks at these places.”
Commenting of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s assurance that steps were taken to detect holders of fake ID cards, Mositun added that weeding out dubious holders of ID cards was also one the objectives of the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the presence of illegal immigrants in Sabah and was something demanded by genuine Sabahans.
